The FCIS signed the memorandum of understanding with the European investment bank

The Director of the Financial Crime Investigation Service Antoni Mikulskis and the Deputy Director Mindaugas Petrauskas signed in Luxembourg the Memorandum of Understanding with the executives of the European Investment Bank. From the side of the Bank the Memorandum was signed by Jan Willem van der Kaaij, General Inspector and Tom Gilliams, Head of the Legal Directorate.

„This Memorandum is a significant step to enhance international cooperation of the Financial Crime Investigation Service. The main goal of the document is the exchange of information, performing the duties attributed to both institutions. The exchange of information is important for prevention of fraud, corruption, collusive practices, coercion, money laundering and terrorism financing”, - said Antoni Mikulskis, Director of the Financial Crime Investigation Service, signing the Memorandum.

The parties of the Memorandum agreed in the aforementioned document not only to exchange the information, but also on operational and technical cooperation, data protection.

The European Investment Bank as the Financial institution of the European Union ensures the use of the support funds for the purposes for which they have been granted, and aims that the operations and activities financed by the bank would not foster swindling, corruption, collusive practices, coercion, money laundering and terrorism financing.

The FCIS is the law enforcement institution responsible for investigation and prevention of crimes against the financial system. It is the main institution of Lithuania responsible for coordination of activity in the fight against money laundering.

The Memorandum of Understanding came into force on the date of its signing.
